5 roster moves the Chicago Bulls need to make this offseason: 2. Pick up Coby White’s team option

Normally, when a player enters their fourth season, it is time for their team to ante up and offer them an extension so that they can guarantee the future direction of the team. However, this is not the case with Coby White.

Offensively, White is a quality player with the ability to score in bunches and has the potential to be the dangerous third or fourth option to take the pressure off the team’s stars. However, that is where it ends for White, whose defense is not always at an NBA level.

At 6’5, it is not like he is undersized, but he does not seem to have the lateral quickness at that end of the court to respond to his opponent. The other issue is that the Bulls have a large number of guards on the roster, including Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso, and Ayo Dosunmu

What White offers the team is a solid backup in case of injury, but more importantly, he is a good potential trade piece. Rather than trying to lump a new team with a contract that may not fit their needs, allowing them the ability to negotiate with White or moving on from him at the end of the season might help sway the deal.
