The rumor mill never stops churning, not even for teams at the bottom of the standings. Despite the Detroit Pistons dropping 12 games in a row and comfortably sitting in last place, they have been a focal point of the upcoming trade season.

After a little more than a year in his new role, Jerami Grant is reportedly firmly on the trade block. While this may not be in earnest just yet, it is worth considering what the Pistons could look to bring back in a trade involving Grant.

As trade season dawns, Jerami Grant is reportedly one of the names many teams are focusing on. What would a possible return for the Detroit Pistons look like?

The timeline and roster makeup for Detroit changed drastically with the drafting (and blossoming) of Cade Cunningham. No longer is Jerami Grant relied on to be the leading isolation threat for the team.

Pivoting makes sense for both sides. Grant has proved himself capable of a bigger role than he had in previous stops and now should be able to go contribute to winning. For the Pistons, youth and financial flexibility are the keys. Bringing back young talent to grow with the current core or draft capital to add to it down the line should take priority.

Today, we will look at five possible returns that would help both sides pursue their goals. While this may be the ultimate framework that gets the deal done, understanding what to expect should whet plenty of fans’ appetites.

<div class="details"> <div class="team-name">Trail Blazers Get</div> <div class="info">Domantas Sabonis</div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <p>However, giving up the requisite salary would leave them with a notable hole in their lineup somewhere. Instead of shipping Grant to the Blazers, sending him to a third team could work out for everyone.</p> <p>This trade does not include draft capital, because figuring out who gets what in this swap would take plenty of negotiating. However, as a framework, this works.</p> <p>Domantas Sabonis would be an instant upgrade for Portland and would be suiting up for his father’s former team. The Pacers (more on them later) would shuffle their roster while remaining competitive in the present.</p> <p>For the Pistons, Anfernee Simons and Nassir Little are young wings with plenty of potential. Jusuf Nurkic makes the money work and would be the only true center on the Pistons roster. With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Detroit would open up even more space going into the offseason.</p> <div class="next-slide slider"> <a class="next-slide-btn" style="background:#222423" data-track="shortcode" data-track-action="next-slide-shortcode" href=https://hoopshabit.com/2021/12/16/nba-trades-jerami-grant-detroit-pistons/"#"> <span class="title">Next:</span> Indiana Pacers </a> </div><!—pageview_candidate—><hr id="pagebreak"><div id="attachment_438148" class="wp-caption aligncenter"> <img class="wp-image-438148 size-full" src=https://hoopshabit.com/2021/12/16/nba-trades-jerami-grant-detroit-pistons/"https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/fetch/c_fill,g_auto,f_auto,h_2133,w_3200/http%3A%2F%2Fhoopshabit.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2Fgetty-images%2F2017%2F07%2F1312656070.jpeg" alt="NBA Trades: 6 Jerami Grant trades to help the Detroit Pistons" width="3200" height="2133" srcset="https://hoopshabit.com/wp-content/uploads/getty-images/2017/07/1312656070.jpeg 3200w, https://hoopshabit.com/wp-content/uploads/getty-images/2017/07/1312656070-768x512.jpeg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 3200px) 100vw, 3200px"><div class="fs-center-img"> <p class="wp-caption-text" style="width:3200px;">MIAMI, FLORIDA – MARCH 19: Myles Turner #33 and Caris LeVert #22 of the Indiana Pacers high five against the Miami Heat during the first quarter at American Airlines Arena on March 19, 2021 in Miami, Florida, NBA Trades: 6 Jerami Grant trades to help the Detroit Pistons.
