NBA Trades: 3-team Duncan Robinson trade for the Miami Heat: Other teams

The two accompanying teams involved in the proposed move are in a similar position in regards to their path moving forward.

The Kings’ 30 wins last season resulted in their 16th straight year of missing out on postseason action. Undoubtedly their most notable moment last season was the midseason trade that saw them land two-time All-Star Domantas Sabonis from the Indiana Pacers.

Sabonis is an extremely versatile frontcourt performer, and the Kings’ front office envision Sabonis and incumbent point guard De’Aaron Fox as a potentially lethal two-man combination.

However, the deal was widely criticized due to the Kings sacrificing up-and-coming guard Tyrese Haliburton. In just his second season in the league, Haliburton had quickly shown he was an excellent selection as the 11th overall pick in the 2020 Draft, thus the surprise at the move.

So moving forward, the Kings will be looking forward to only improving their roster, but ensuring it’s designed to suit the timeline of both Sabonis and Fox.

As for the Wizards, they also missed out on playoff action last season, marking the third time in the past four years that this has occurred. Presently, their most pressing issue is dealing with the status of unrestricted free agent Bradley Beal.

After opting out of the final year of his contract, the Wizards have the luxury of offering the three-time All-Star the most years and dollars for his next deal. Assuming they get this done, addressing the remainder of the roster remains a clear work in progress.

<div class="details"> <div class="team-name">Kings Get</div> <div class="info">Kyle Kuzma,</div> <div class="info">2027 1st-Round Pick (via MIA)</div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <p>For the Heat, they receive a highly-effective and versatile forward in Harrison Barnes. A member of the 2015 NBA Champion Golden State Warriors, Barnes completed his 10th year in the league after being selected seventh overall in 2012. Highly durable, Barnes trails only current Heat free agent PJ Tucker for the most games played overall since entering the league.</p> <p>A consistent performer year-to-year, Barnes is one of just five players who have appeared in at least 400 games since the 2016-17 season to average at least 17 points and five rebounds while shooting at least 45 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free-throw line.</p> <p>The other four are Nikola Jokic, Karl-Anthony Towns, DeMar DeRozan, and Tobias Harris. The 30-year-old forward is entering the final year of a deal paying him $18.4 million next season.</p> <p>In the proposed deal, the Kings are receiving emerging forward Kyle Kuzma. In his fifth season in the league, Kuzma averaged 17.1 points and a career-high 8.5 rebounds. A highly versatile scorer, Kuzma upped his production as the season progressed, posting 21.0 points and 9.0 rebounds over his final 35 games of the season.</p> <p>Paired with Sabonis in the front court, Kuzma would provide a great replacement for Barnes, and at just 27, he still has plenty of years to perform at a high level. Additionally, the Kings will receive a future first-round pick as compensation for losing two key rotation players.</p> <p>Then there’s the Wizards, who, in addition to landing Robinson, also acquire the services of point guard Davion Mitchell. Assuming Beal re-signs, Mitchell would be able to slide into the backcourt with Robinson stretching the floor as the starting small forward.</p> <p>With the returning Kristaps Porzingis, who excelled after arriving in the middle of last season, starting at the center spot, this would provide the Wizards with a new and exciting nucleus moving forward. Considering the Wizards finished 26th last season in three-point percentage, Robinson’s addition would be more than timely.</p> <p>In summary, the Miami Heat receive a proven veteran forward, the Sacramento Kings another emerging piece for their continued rebuild, while the Washington Wizards add some elite shooting in addition to an exciting young point guard talent.</p> <div class="fs-shortcode" data-type="StoryLink" data-theme="dark" data-text="5 teams that should pursue PJ Tucker this offseason" data-url="https://hoopshabit.com/2022/06/28/nba-free-agency-pj-tucker/" data-call-to-action="Next"> <div class="story-link-next"> <a class="story-link-next-btn" style="background:#222423" data-track="shortcode" data-track-action="story-link-next-shortcode" href=https://hoopshabit.com/2022/06/29/nba-trades-duncan-robinson-miami-heat/2/"https://hoopshabit.com/2022/06/28/nba-free-agency-pj-tucker/"> <span class="call_to_action">Next:</span> 5 teams that should pursue PJ Tucker this offseason </a> </div> </div><!—pageview_candidate—>">
