People criticized Karl-Anthony Towns and his shot selection down the stretch. The T-Wolves were blasted for blowing so many leads throughout the series, thus losing a bout they probably should have one. These and other critical conversations were the talks of the town.
However, the one man everyone seemed to be talking about after the game was D’Angelo Russell. Unfortunately for him, it wasn’t because of anything great that he did during the game.
Russell was not in the T-Wolves’ closing lineup in the final minutes of the game, something that he has made it clear that he’s not very happy about. Instead, head coach Chris Finch went with Jordan McLaughlin.
In Finch’s defense, McLaughlin had been by far the more efficient player throughout the series, as well as the better playmaker. That being said, it was a tough look for Russell to be on the bench with how much money he’s making.
With Russell being upset at the fact he wasn’t put in the game, trade rumors have begun popping up. And according to long-time NBA reporter Marc Stein (subscription required), rival teams are expected to inquire about Russell this summer.
Russell is very close friends with Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns, so it’s unlikely he gets dealt. However, if the right offer presents itself, should the T-Wolves be willing to trade him?

NBA Trades: 3 D’Angelo Russell trades for the Minnesota Timberwolves to consider: LA Clippers

LA Clippers receive: D’Angelo Russell, 2023 Second-Round Pick

Minnesota Timberwolves: Norman Powell, Marcus Morris

At face value, this seems like a weird trade for the Timberwolves to make. It would leave them relatively thin at the ball-handler position and sees them lose some dynamic scoring. However, what the T-Wolves do get could outweigh what they lose in this deal.

First and foremost, the T-Wolves get some great depth in this trade. Both Powell and Morris are high-level bench players who are perfectly capable of starting, too.

Powell is a near-20-point per game scorer and Morris is the type of guy who can get his team a bucket at a moment’s notice. Plus, they would give the T-Wolves an improved veteran presence in the lineup.

It also gives them a lot more long-term flexibility. Russell is only under contract for one more season, and after that, Minnesota would have to worry about re-signing him.

Instead, the Clippers would get the point guard they’ve been looking for, and Reggie Jackson can return to the bench and cook opposing teams from there.

As far as Minnesota’s lack of playmaking after the trade, they would still have Patrick Beverley and Jordan McLaughlin. In addition, since they would have just added two quality wings, they could trade Malik Beasley for a replacement point guard.

NBA Trades: 3 D’Angelo Russell trades for the Minnesota Timberwolves to consider: New York Knicks

New York Knicks receive: D’Angelo Russell, 2027 Second-Round Pick

Minnesota Timberwolves receive: Evan Fournier, Nerlens Noel, Quentin Grimes

Fournier just wrapped up what was one of the worst seasons of his NBA career. At least, that’s what the media will tell you. In actuality, he put up his career averages this year, just check the numbers.

His field goal percentage was down, but that’s about it. The biggest reason it seemed like he had a terrible season is that he was relatively inconsistent. But so were the Knicks.

In reality, Fournier still has the potential to be a big, scoring guard that can make plays for himself and others. That would fit right in with what the Timberwolves are doing.

Minnesota would also get a much-needed backup center in this trade in Noel, who would probably end up playing minutes whenever they need a stop on the defensive end.

But the real gem of this deal for the T-Wolves would be Grimes. The young wing could develop into a sparkplug scorer off the bench for the Wolves if given the opportunity.

Meanwhile, the Knicks would get the ball-handler they so desperately need, as well as a swagger-filled point guard who feels destined to play in a big market.

Russell would bring MSG to life on a nightly basis while simultaneously setting Julius Randle and RJ Barrett up for shots. And even if it doesn’t work out, Russell would be off the books sooner than Fournier, anyways.
