NBA Trades: Teams that should explore D’Angelo Russell trade – New York Knicks
It seems like the New York Knicks are looking for their franchise point guard year in and year out. Last year, it was Kemba Walker, whose return to the Big Apple was hyped up only for the guard to be benched in late November.
With the Walker experiment being deemed a failure, the Knicks will be looking for a replacement point guard this offseason, and swinging a trade for D’Angelo Russell could help bring more star power to New York.
Immediately, Russell would be among the best point guards the Knicks have had on their roster in recent memory. Over the last two and a half years with Minnesota, the point guard has averaged a solid 18.8 points and 6.6 assists per game.
Numbers like that could be just what New York is looking for in the backcourt. Russell would be a great fit alongside ascending star RJ Barrett, as those two could wreak havoc on the offensive end against opposing defenses.
After missing the playoffs this year, it feels like the Knicks need to make a move, and trading for an established point guard like D’Angelo Russell fits the billing in that regard. In order to get back into the postseason and take the next step as a franchise, the Knicks need a floor general, and Russell could be their best option once the offseason rolls around.
While New York has a handful of quality young guards such as Immanuel Quickley, Miles McBride, and Quentin Grimes, they could opt to go with a piece like Russell that has experience and star power to improve their roster immediately.
put his name in some hypothetical NBA trades and rumors.

The former All-Star guard struggled to find his footing throughout the entire six-game series against the Memphis Grizzlies, having put up some brutal numbers. Across six games, Russell averaged a mere 12 points per contest while shooting 33.3 percent from the floor.

He struggled to help as the Timberwolves ultimately lost what was a very winnable matchup from start to finish. With the Timberwolves’ season now over, Russell’s name has started to be mentioned in the rumor mill as it pertains to potential trade targets to keep an eye on this offseason.

NBA Trades: D’Angelo Russell has been mentioned as a potential player to watch in trade discussions this offseason

According to veteran NBA insider Marc Stein (subscription required), <a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2022/05/07/nba-trades-dangelo-russell/2/"https://marcstein.substack.com/p/a-slow-spinning-coaching-marketplace?s=r%22 target="_blank" rel="noopener">rival executives believe that the Timberwolves will explore trade scenarios involving Russell this offseason.

Despite Russell’s downright brutal showing in the postseason, several teams will certainly express interest if Russell is made available in trade talks, given his stature as a player. After all, this is a former All-Star, and at 26 years old, Russell is still a young player that could be a quality piece for a handful of teams looking to bulk up their backcourt.

Another reason why Russell could be viewed as a desirable piece in trade talks is due to the status of his current contract. Next season will be the final year of his deal, and although Russell is set to make a whopping $31.4 million, the fact that the contract is expiring could make it more digestible for any team looking to make a big move through trade.

With all that being said, here are three teams that should explore trading for D’Angelo Russell if he is made available by the Minnesota Timberwolves this offseason.
