The Memphis Grizzlies have certainly been busy this offseason by making a slew of interesting trades to reshape their roster.
They kicked things off with a deal with the New Orleans Pelicans that revolved around swapping their starting centers, shifting around Steven Adams and Jonas Valanciunas. The Grizzlies acquired Eric Bledsoe in that deal as well, but he was not around long as they sent him to the LA Clippers in a separate deal involving Patrick Beverley and Rajon Rondo.
Beverley would not even get the chance to have a cup of coffee in Memphis as he was traded away once again, this time to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a move for Jarrett Culver and Juancho Hernangomez.
The Grizzlies also traded Grayson Allen to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for two future second-round picks and Sam Merrill, which was certainly an unexpected move given how Allen had fit into the rotation.
What is the motivation behind the Memphis Grizzlies making all these trades?
Following these trades, it seems clear that the Grizzlies are looking to add youth and future draft capital. Given that they are a young team led by a 22-year-old star in Ja Morant, it appears they are complement with playing the waiting game and stockpiling for the future. After making the playoffs this past season, it is an interesting course of action, and time will tell how it ultimately works out as the team will look far different next season.
Despite the handful of moves they have made this offseason, recent rumors suggest that they might not be done on the trade market just yet. Reports continue to surface that Memphis has some key players available in trade talks, which should catch the attention of other teams as the Grizzlies have shown a willingness to sell recently. With that being said, here are three Grizzlies that could still be traded before the 2021-22 NBA season begins in October.

The Memphis Grizzlies could trade Rajon Rondo before the 2021-22 NBA season

Immediately after Rondo was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in the Bledsoe deal, it was widely expected that he would never play a game there. They wasted no time trading Beverley following the move, and the writing is on the wall that Rondo would up next to be dealt if the Grizzlies were indeed still active in trade talks across the league.

This belief was only reinforced by Drew Hill of the Daily Memphian, who reported that Rondo will <a style="background-color: #ffffff" href=https://hoopshabit.com/2021/08/26/memphis-grizzlies-3-players-traded/"https://dailymemphian.com/Email/Article/23623/ArticleEmail/0?token=3rRqKaPYaEKpJDzsvnI54Q%3D%3D%22 target="_blank" rel="noopener">“probably not” be with the team to begin the season. That could mean the guard is potentially heading toward a buyout with the Grizzlies, but they would certainly like to trade him if possible before they buy out the $7.5 million remaining on his deal. However, they may have some trouble looking for a potential suitor to take on Rondo, given that he is 35-years-old and coming off the least productive season of his career while making a solid amount of money.

Still, the idea of getting Rondo has to be interesting to some degree for other teams. He has been among the best facilitators at the position during his career, serving as a masterful floor general. He is best suited to play in a backup role moving forward, but the veteran could provide quality minutes to teams that need a boost in the backcourt. This is particularly the case with contenders, who will remember how essential Rondo was for the Los Angeles Lakers during their 2019-20 title run. However, despite those claims, the likelihood of a team trading for that salary seems unlikely.

Following his down year in 2020-21, it does not seem like teams will be engaging in a bidding war to acquire Rondo anytime soon. He could be of interest to some degree, and if the opportunity presents itself, the Grizzlies will almost certainly pull the trigger on a deal. Teams will likely take a wait-and-see approach to try and get him on a buyout deal. Yet, never say never in the NBA.

The Memphis Grizzlies could trade Kyle Anderson before the 2021-22 NBA season

As they look to get younger, the Grizzlies are reportedly open to trading away <a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2021/08/26/memphis-grizzlies-3-players-traded/"https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/anderky01.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener" ref="nofollow">Kyle Anderson, who has been with the team for the last three seasons. According to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, the 27-year-old forward is reportedly <a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2021/08/26/memphis-grizzlies-3-players-traded/"https://www.cleveland.com/cavs/2021/08/larry-nance-jr-trade-free-agent-signing-will-cleveland-cavaliers-do-anything-else-this-offseason.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“available for the right price,” and it seems reasonable to think he will have some interested suitors after the career year he just put together.

Playing as a full-time starter for the first time in his career last season, Anderson shattered most of his previous career highs. In 69 games with Memphis, the seven-year vet averaged 12.4 points on .468/.360/.783 shooting splits, 5.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. He provided a solid dose of two-way play, and this news that he is available for trade should spark the interest of opposing contenders. Anderson is a credible veteran that can score the basketball and hold his own on the defensive end while playing either forward spot.

The Boston Celtics are one such team that could make a strong pitch to acquire Anderson, and they reportedly have had some previous interest in him. Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer noted in a previous report that<a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2021/08/26/memphis-grizzlies-3-players-traded/"https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2946614-sources-free-agency-spotlight-on-cp3-the-lowry-domino-emerging-pg-carousel" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Boston expressed interest in trading for Anderson by utilizing a trade exception created from the Gordon Hayward deal before they used it on Josh Richardson. With the Celtics gaining yet another trade exception after Evan Fournier signed with the New York Knicks, they could put it to good use by easily absorbing Anderson’s $9.9 million salary for next season. They are just one hypothetical suitor, but do not be surprised if other teams get in on the mix.

While he is not the flashiest player, Anderson could certainly help net some more draft capital for the Grizzlies to stash away for future use.

The Memphis Grizzlies could trade Dillon Brooks before the 2021-22 NBA season

Among the players that the Memphis Grizzlies have to offer, <a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2021/08/26/memphis-grizzlies-3-players-traded/"https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/brookdi01.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener" ref="nofollow">Dillon Brooks is undeniably the one that will generate the most interest from other teams. Fedor noted in his reporting the team is also open to trading Brooks for the right return. Teams will certainly be calling to make an offer for the guard after a career year in Memphis.

Brooks is coming off a fantastic season where he averaged 17.2 points on a .419/.344/.815 slash line, 2.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. While his efficiency was not the greatest, Brooks took another stride in his game offensively as he embraced a bigger role for this Memphis team. There is undoubtedly still room for him to grow on that side of the ball, and at 25-years-old, he has time to improve.

What should truly gauge interest from other teams is the defensive prowess that Brooks brings to the table. The fourth-year pro has quietly developed into a tenacious defender and had standout performances against several of the league’s best and most well-known players this past season. According to NBA.com./stats,<a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2021/08/26/memphis-grizzlies-3-players-traded/"https://www.nba.com/stats/player/1628415/head-to-head/?sort=SECONDS&dir=1%22 target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Brooks held Damian Lillard to 27 points on 9-of-24 shooting in three games, surrendered 16 points to Luka Doncic on 5-of-20 shooting in two games, and held reigning Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo to 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting in two games.

The guard has All-Defensive potential written all over him, and his ability to guard some of the league’s best players will make him a hot commodity. It would likely take a hefty price to pry him away from Memphis, but he appears available. Officially set to make $12.2 million this year and $11.4 million the following, the shooting guard could be an affordable target for several teams.
