While the Jazz are very center-dominant at the moment, there are a large number of rumors going around that the Jazz will be looking to rebuild around Mitchell. To put it simply, this is not going to be possible with Gobert’s massive salary on the books.
Hassan Whiteside signed on with the Jazz during the last offseason on a single-season deal which was worth $2.4 million. The good thing for the Jazz and Whiteside is that he had a huge payday on his previous contract when he signed on for four years with the Miami Heat, worth just shy of $100 million, so he has made his money for his career.
Whiteside averaged 8.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks in just 17.9 minutes per game. He is not a player that many plays are run for, but he is able to use his height, athleticism, and rebounding ability to great effect to help the team score.

After that deal finished, Whiteside signed on for a single season with the <a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2022/06/20/moves-utah-jazz-offseason/2/"https://hoopshabit.com/western-conference/sacramento-kings/">Sacramento Kings prior to signing on with the Jazz. He is unlikely to get a large offer from any other franchise and the Jazz have the potential to offer a starting position if they move on from Gobert.

Portland Trail Blazers in a three-team trade with Elijah Hughes and two future second-round draft picks.

In return, they received Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who the Jazz need to pick up his team option for this season. They also received Juancho Hernangomez as part of the deal. While neither of these players made much of an impression, if they can keep Alexander-Walker and re-sign Ingles, then that would be perfect.

Ingles is the type of player who offers such tremendous versatility and this is crucial to the chances of any team if they are looking to contend. Ingles can play the point or either wing position and spaces the floor so effectively, having been at the top of the NBA in three-point shooting in previous seasons.

Given that the Jazz was the only team that would take a chance on Ingles, there is a good chance that the Jazz could sign him to a team-friendly deal. Since he may not be available at the start of the season, getting him for a veterans minimum would not be wasted money. He could be a critical piece for the Jazz and help them be a force in the playoffs.

Boston Celtics where he played 18 games. They traded him to the <a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2022/06/20/moves-utah-jazz-offseason/2/"https://hoopshabit.com/western-conference/san-antonio-spurs/">San Antonio Spurs, where Hernangomez played only five games.

He only played 17 games for the Jazz, starting nine of them. He averaged 6.2 points and 3.5 rebounds in 17.5 minutes per game. He shot the ball well with a slash line of .507/.43.8/.476 and the Jazz went 9-8 in the games that he played.

He is not the player that he was when he was with the <a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2022/06/20/moves-utah-jazz-offseason/2/"https://hoopshabit.com/western-conference/minnesota-timberwolves/">Minnesota Timberwolves, but the beauty of this situation is that the Jazz had those 17 games to develop chemistry. Just imagine what they are potentially able to do with a full offseason together.

Hernangomez is due $6.6 million next season, and if he can produce at a higher level than last season, then this move will be worth it. If he does not work out, then the Jazz would have a very tradeable contract to help improve their chances during the playoffs. This is the flexibility that the Jazz needs to have moving forward.
