Milwaukee Bucks: Grading NBA free agency moves — Re-signing Bobby Portis

Initially, Milwaukee had a perfect start to free agency after coming to an agreement with fan-favorite Bobby Portis to return to the Bucks on another team-friendly deal worth $9.0 million over two years. Portis will have a player option in the second year, and similar to last season, he’ll most likely decline it to earn a larger pay day, which would surely be well deserved. The Bucks will also have Bobby’s Early Bird Rights next offseason, meaning they’ll be able to pay him more than any other team if he indeed hits free agency again.

This was the best-case scenario for the Bucks as Portis will only account for $4.3 million on the cap sheet for next season, which is insane value for a player of his caliber. Bobby reportedly turned down offers from Miami and Dallas in the mid-level exception range that’s just north of $9.0 million annually, so it’s pretty obvious that the 26-year-old energizer cherishes his role with the Bucks, the culture, the winning environment, the passionate fans, and the city of Milwaukee.

Bobby Portis seems like he’s found a home after bouncing around the league the last few years, and he’ll look to provide the same intensity, tenacity, hustle, swagger, and underdog mentality to the Bucks throughout the determined mission to defend the Larry O’Brien Trophy.

Grade: A+
