NBA Trades: 3 New York Knicks trades for a starting point guard: Chicago Bulls
Knicks receive: Coby White
Bulls receive: Mitchell Robinson
Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer recently reported that the Chicago Bulls could show interest in signing New York Knicks big man Mitchell Robinson this offseason.
And while the Knicks would likely prefer to retain Robinson, if he does decide that he wants a change of scenery, and Chicago is his choice, the Bulls would need to make it a sign-and-trade. This is where New York could swoop in.
The Bulls are supposedly looking to trade point guard Coby White this summer, and while he hasn’t lived up to his true potential just yet, New York could be the place where he finally blossoms.
White has played alright in his first few seasons in the league, but with Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso, and Ayo Dosunmu now in the picture for the Bulls, he has become expendable.
In New York, White could get the minutes he needs to thrive. And although Tom Thibodeau doesn’t love playing youngsters, he might be forced to, considering White would be his only true option at the one.
This deal would create a whole new problem in the fact that the Knicks would be left without a starting-caliber center, but nabbing White to potentially be their point guard of the future could be worth that risk.
New York Knicks and the point guard position have become synonymous. Unfortunately, that’s because they haven’t had a bonafide starting point guard for the better part of the last decade.

New York’s never-ending search for a point guard was supposed to end last offseason when they signed hometown hero Kemba Walker. That didn’t quite work out, though.

Now, they’ll be heading into yet another offseason where they need will be in search of a starting point guard. And while the draft presents some promising options, the trade market could be their best bet.

Here are three potential trades that would land the Knicks a new starting point guard.

NBA Trades: 3 New York Knicks trades for a starting point guard: Indiana Pacers

Knicks receive: Malcolm Brogdon

Pacers receive: Quentin Grimes, Cam Reddish, Alec Burks, #46 Pick

This connection has been made by several outlets, as the <a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2022/06/10/nba-trades-new-york-knicks-4/2/"https://hoopshabit.com/eastern-conference/indiana-pacers/">Indiana Pacers are expected to entertain offers for Malcolm Brogdon this summer. And, if that is the case, the New York Knicks should definitely be interested.

Despite his shooting numbers last season, which were oddly low, Brogdon has been one of the most reliable guards in the league. He’s always been an efficient scorer, an underappreciated playmaker, and a solid defender.

New York would be sending out two young pieces who could help the Pacers. Quentin Grimes would prove to be a solid shooter to pair alongside Tyrese Haliburton, while Cam Reddish could reset his career in Indiana. Meanwhile, Alec Burks is mainly included to match salaries but would be a nice depth piece.

Brogdon would help the Knicks make a playoff push with his veteran experience, while Grimes, Reddish, and the extra second would help the Pacers further their rebuild.

NBA Trades: 3 New York Knicks trades for a starting point guard: Charlotte Hornets

Knicks receive: Terry Rozier, Pick #15

Hornets receive: Mitchell Robinson, Cam Reddish, Kemba Walker, Pick #11

This trade would help two different teams fill needs. The New York Knicks would land the point guard they’ve been chasing for years, while the <a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2022/06/10/nba-trades-new-york-knicks-4/2/"https://hoopshabit.com/eastern-conference/charlotte-hornets/">Charlotte Hornets would attempt to find the answer at the center position.

Terry Rozier has blossomed into a borderline All-Star with the Hornets, but with LaMelo Ball running the show now, he’s become somewhat expendable. The fit works still, but he’s not a necessity.

In New York, Rozier would take over as the full-time starting point guard. He’s not a great distributor, but he’s a great shot creator and shot-maker, which are two big-time areas of need for the Knicks.

Charlotte would be snagging Mitchell Robinson to be their starting center, giving Ball a true lob threat to work with for the first time in his young career.

They would also get Cam Reddish, who could be a decent wing defender for them. He’s on the last year of his deal, so at the very least, he’d be a decent player to take a chance on for the Hornets.

And while the story of Kemba Walker returning to Charlotte is a fun one, don’t get those hopes up. He’s mainly in this deal to match salaries, as the Knicks would need to match Rozier’s $21.4 million.

The two teams would also swap first-round picks, as the Knicks would be getting the best player in the deal by a landslide. Charlotte would move up in the draft and have a better shot at landing guys like Jalen Duren, Bennedict Mathurin, and Jeremy Sochan.
