The NBA season is in the home stretch right now and teams are getting prepared for the postseason. And while most teams are jockeying for playoff position, some teams have still found themselves involved in some late-season drama.
One of those teams is the Utah Jazz, who are currently sitting at fourth in the Western Conference. But despite another solid regular season, the headlines tell a different story.
For the last couple of seasons, there have been reports of a rift forming between Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell. And just recently, Howard Beck reported that teams are preparing for Mitchell to potentially request a trade.
If that does end up happening, there will obviously be a large market for Mitchell this offseason. But out of all the teams, which ones would be the ideal landing spots for the young star?
NBA Trades: 5 Donovan Mitchell destinations this summer – Miami Heat
For the longest time, the Miami Heat have been linked to Donovan Mitchell, in the sense that he’d probably like to play there. And while the Heat are notorious for being linked to everyone, this fit just makes sense.
Miami is good enough to compete right now, meaning Mitchell would want to play there, but they also have a bright future that fits in with his timeline.
The duo of Mitchell and Bam Adebayo would be one of the best in the league for years to come, and having Jimmy Butler around would help them win now, too.
Take into account the elite supporting cast they have in South Beach right now, too, and Miami seems like an ideal destination for the young shooting guard.

NBA Trades: 5 Donovan Mitchell destinations this summer – Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics are a young, talented team that is currently on the rise in the Eastern Conference. Donovan Mitchell would fit in perfectly with their current core.

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are already one of the best duos in the league, so adding another young, All-Star-caliber guard to the mix would only help them improve.

Plus, Mitchell and Brown have made it clear on social media that they are friends. Dating back to their entertaining pictures in the bubble, that has been well-documented.

So if Mitchell does end up asking out of Utah this offseason, don’t be surprised if the Celtics are on his shortlist of teams that he asks to be traded to.

NBA Trades: 5 Donovan Mitchell destinations this summer – New York Knicks

Whenever a big-time superstar ends up requesting a trade, expect the New York Knicks to throw their name in the ring. And realistically, it could be a good fit.

As the Knicks begin a new era (hopefully), putting Mitchell alongside RJ Barrett could create the next great young guard/wing duo in the league.

Would it be enough to carry the Knicks to the promised land? Maybe. But at least New York would get somewhat of a fresh start with a young core.

Mitchell is from New York, too, so there’s always a chance he’d want to play for the team he grew up watching. Mitchell in the Mecca has a nice ring to it.

NBA Trades: 5 Donovan Mitchell destinations this summer – Dallas Mavericks

If Donovan Mitchell wanted to go to a place where he wouldn’t have to take on a ton of ball-handling duties, there wouldn’t be many places better than Dallas.

Luka Doncic and Mitchell would immediately make the Dallas Mavericks one of the top teams in the West, and the Mavs are already hovering around the four/five seed.

Doncic would have a new co-star and Mitchell would reap the benefits of playing with one of the best playmakers in the entire league. That sounds like a win-win.

Obviously, Dallas would have to muster up a package to send to Utah, but if Mitchell specifically requested to go to Dallas, the Mavs would have something special.

NBA Trades: 5 Donovan Mitchell destinations this summer – Memphis Grizzlies

This might be the dark horse team to snag Mitchell this summer if he does end up asking out. The Memphis Grizzlies are elite this year, and adding Mitchell could elevate them even more.

Ja Morant has emerged as an MVP candidate this season, and the supporting cast around him is one of the best in the business. They’re just a very well-rounded, young team.

Morant and Mitchell would form one of the most dynamic, talented backcourts in the league. The talent level on both ends of the floor would be off the charts.

The rumor states that Mitchell wants to play in a big market, so Memphis might not be for him. But if he wants to compete for championships, he might want to reconsider.
