The Chicago Bulls should pursue a deal with the recently released DeMarcus Cousins.
Once upon a time, DeMarcus Cousins was one of the best centers in the NBA. He was big, strong and agile. He could bang with other big bodies in the paint and rebound with the best of them. When double-teamed, he always seemed to make the right pass, either to an open shooter or to a teammate cutting to the basket.
His best attribute, however, was his ability to put the ball in the basket. Not only could he score in a variety of ways, but he was also aggressive and prolific. During his heyday, he averaged more than 20 points per game for five consecutive seasons.
Unfortunately for Cousins, he never played in a single playoff game during his prime. After six and a half stellar seasons as a Sacramento King, he was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. In 2018, the Pelicans made it into the playoffs but a torn left Achilles suffered before the All-Star break prevented Cousins from playing. Since then, he has shown the world that he still possesses the talent that made him a perennial All-Star; unfortunately, the wear and tear on his body won’t allow him to return to his former glory.

The Houston Rockets recently announced they are releasing the former Kentucky Wildcat and he is free to sign with another team. There’s another former Wildcat that could use the veteran center’s services and should push his front office to make the deal. Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan was an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky from 1989 to 1994. Besides their connection to Lexington, there’s something else these two have common, a fierce competitive nature.
The Windy City would be a great destination for DeMarcus Cousins to finish the 2021 season. Here’s why.
