5 players who saw their stock rise during NBA Summer League: 1. Jeff Dowtin, Toronto Raptors

Most people reading the name Jeff Dowtin might question who that is. It’s hard to blame them, as even the most hardcore of NBA fans likely wouldn’t have known the name before this summer.

The 25-year-old out of Rhode Island wasn’t taken in the 2020 NBA Draft and has been largely hanging around the G League ever since, getting the occasional shot at the NBA level. He was mediocre at best during his first season in the developmental league but was significantly better last year.

This summer, Dowtin took his game to the next level. Across four games with the Toronto Raptors, the 6-foot-3 guard looked dominant at times, sporting a 67.1 true shooting percentage. He also dished 17 assists against only two turnovers.

Dowtin averaged 16.0 points, 4.3 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game during Summer League. He also demonstrated appealing physical characteristics, such as a lengthy wingspan that belies his height.

Unsurprisingly, the team he was playing for this summer took notice of how much Dowtin’s stock was rocketing up and decided to make a move themselves. Dowtin signed a two-way contract with the Raptors, pairing him with Ron Harper Jr.

Dowtin will probably spend most of his time in the G League once again, but the organizational fit couldn’t be better between player and team, as the Raptors emphasize athleticism and length. If he’s going to make an impact in the NBA, this feels like the team he’ll do it.
