It was recently announced by New York Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau that point guard Kemba Walker is no longer in the rotation. He will be replaced by Alec Burks.
This was a long-time coming for Walker, who has been playing poorly this season. His numbers are down across the board and he looks to be a shell of his former self.
Last year in Boston, Walker showed signs of slowing down. He had to sit on the second night of back-to-backs, and even when he did play, it was clear that he was not playing at the level he used to.
With that being said, Walker is still on a fairly team-friendly contract. What NBA trades would teams around the league be willing to do in order to get him?
NBA Trades to find Kemba Walker a new home: New Orleans Pelicans
Pelicans receive: Kemba Walker
Knicks receive: Tomas Satoransky
This trade is fairly even considering how poorly each of these players have played this season. However, for the New Orleans Pelicans, it’s simply a chance to do something to save their horrific season.
As crazy as it is to say, Walker is shooting better than Tomas Satoransky is this season. Plus, he’d provide some more playmaking alongside Brandon Ingram and Jonas Valanciunas.
Walker hasn’t been awful shooting-wise this season, either, so it might be worth it if the Pelicans want to add a little bit of extra scoring. They don’t need him to take on a huge role.
For New York, they’d simply be getting off his contract for one that is up at the end of the season. Satoransky wouldn’t play much unless they want some height in the lineup.

NBA Trades to find Kemba Walker a new home: LA Clippers

Clippers receive: Kemba Walker

Knicks receive: Serge Ibaka

The LA Clippers have been solid this season, but only on one end of the floor. While their defense has been great, their offense has looked atrocious at times.

This is where Kemba Walker could step in. They wouldn’t need him to play a huge role, but if he could simply come off the bench and give them a couple of buckets a game, it might be a huge help.

Despite his lack of defensive ability and overall inconsistency, Walker has actually been fairly efficient this season. His shooting splits look good when seen as a whole.

Since LA is already such a defensive-minded team, adding one player who focuses on offense won’t be the end of the world. As mentioned, it’s not as if they’re going to be asking him to start.

As for Serge Ibaka, he’s only played in a few games since coming back from injury. With Ivica Zubac, and arguably even Isaiah Hartenstein above him in the rotation, the Clippers aren’t depending on him too much.

He’s getting up there in age and they run a bunch of small-ball lineups anyways. It wouldn’t be hurting them a lot in the grand scheme of things.

New York wouldn’t have much use for Ibaka, either, but his contract is up at the end of the year. This means they can either buy him out easier or simply have some money freed up at the end of the season.

NBA Trades to find Kemba Walker a new home: Dallas Mavericks

Mavericks receive: Kemba Walker

Knicks receive: Willie Cauley-Stein, Trey Burke

The Dallas Mavericks need to put as much talent around Luka Doncic as possible. In theory, this would be a great move for them to make.

As of now, neither Willie Cauley-Stein nor Trey Burke is in the regular rotation, so it couldn’t hurt to trade them in order to take a chance on Kemba Walker.

The Mavs have expressed the desire to get an extra ball-handler next to Doncic in the past. While Jalen Brunson has taken on that role, Walker could help them, too.

He might be the perfect bench guy to have as a safety net in case they need an extra bucket. He’s not consistent, but when Walker gets hot, he gets hot.

For the Knicks, they’d be getting back two quality players who could play spot minutes for them if need be. Neither is anything special, but neither is Walker at the moment for them.

Cauley-Stein will fall at the end of a packed center rotation in New York. They could choose to buy him out, but his contract is up at the end of the year anyway.

Meanwhile, Burke would be returning to New York for the second time in his career. True Knicks fans remember that period in 2018 when he was absolutely balling out for them.

This trade could end up helping both sides. The Mavs would take a chance to help improve their guard depth, while the Knicks get off a contract they seemingly no longer want.
