How Victor Oladipo returning impacts the Miami Heat: Defense and depth

Oladipo is also a solid defender on a team full of them. He could be a part of a strong defensive unit when the Heat are trying to maintain a close lead at the end of games. Having good defenders is a key to postseason success, something the Heat are chomping at the bit for.

His most important role will be providing more depth to the roster. Miami has dealt with a spate of injuries this season. The team has played 61 games, but Duncan Robinson leads the way with 58 this season. The team’s four leading scorers – Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro, Bam Adebayo, and Lowry – have all missed at least 10 games.

Depth has been strong for the Heat, but they could definitely use more support at the guard position. Getting an All-Star caliber player for the stretch run is too perfect for any team.

Having Oladipo take the court for about 15-20 minutes a night can only help the Heat. The big question is – is it significant enough to push the Heat towards the NBA Finals and help them win a championship?

This is a team that stood pat at the trade deadline. They haven’t made a major acquisition since the start of the season and Pat Riley likely knew in the back of his mind that Oladipo would provide a big boost upon his return.
