NBA Trades: 3 Kevin Durant trades to unexpected teams: Washington Wizards
Wizards receive: Kevin Durant
Nets receive: Kristaps Porzingis, Kyle Kuzma, Rui Hachimura, Johnny Davis, 2025 1st-Round Pick, 2027 1st-Round Pick, 2029 1st-Round Pick, 2026 1st-Rond Pick (Swap), 2028 1st-Round Pick (Swap)
At first glance, this trade doesn’t really make too much sense for the Nets. They want a young, All-Star-caliber player, and in this trade, they wouldn’t really get that.
However, Durant is from Washington. Going back to play for his hometown team while simultaneously teaming up with another All-Star in Bradley Beal would make a ton of sense.
And while there’s no All-Star player in this trade, there are a few potential All-Stars. Porzingis has been an All-Star in the past, and in the right situation, there’s always a chance he could get back to playing on that level.
Kuzma is a solid bench piece to have, and in his first year in Washington with an expanded role, he thrived. Maybe he could continue to grow with even more freedom in Brooklyn.
Lastly, the Nets would be getting two youngsters. Hachimura has shown glimpses of great potential, while Davis, the 10th pick in the 202 NBA Draft, could always turn into something special with the freedom he’d have with the Nets.
As for the Wizards, adding Durant would create one of the league’s best duos. Plus, they’d have a solid supporting cast of Deni Avdja (who the Nets might ask for), Will Barton, Monte Morris, Daniel Gafford, and Delon Wright.
Brooklyn Nets and now everyone is anxiously waiting to see what team he suits up for next.

While an initial list came out that included the Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat, other teams like the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, and even the Golden State Warriors came up as potential possibilities.

Each of those teams does have a chance to land Durant, but wouldn’t it be even more fun to see him end up on a team that no one predicted beforehand?

Why not shake up the league entirely? Here are three NBA trades that would see Durant land on a team that no one is expected by the start of next season.

NBA Trades: 3 Kevin Durant trades to unexpected teams: Toronto Raptors

Raptors receive: Kevin Durant

Nets receive: Pascal Siakam, OG Anuonoby, 2023 1st-Round Pick, 2025 1st-Round Pick, 2027 1st-Round Pick, 2029 1st-Round Pick

The Raptors have actually come up in rumors over the past day or so, with reports indicating that Durant may actually welcome a trade to Toronto, which would probably make them favorites to win it all.

Adding Durant to a roster of Fred VanVleet, Scottie Barnes, Gary Trent Jr., Chris Boucher, and other depth would immediately put them in the upper echelon of the NBA.

On the flip side, the Nets would get some necessary assets to remain a competitive team in the Eastern Conference. Siakam is an All-Star, and with the right opportunities, Anunoby could blossom into someone that’s close to making an All-Star team.

The sticking point in this deal for both sides would likely be Barnes. Toronto would definitely want to keep him, but Brooklyn would likely demand him in any Durant deal.

NBA Trades: 3 Kevin Durant trades to unexpected teams: Atlanta Hawks

Hawks receive: Kevin Durant

Nets receive: John Collins, DeAndre Hunter, Clint Capela, 2023 1st-Round Pick, 2029 1st-Round Pick, 2024 1st-Round PIck (Swap), 2028 1st-Round Pick, (Swap)

As if the Hawks hadn’t given up enough picks for Murray… This trade would quite literally cause them to lose control over every single first-round pick that they own from now until 2029.

But they would have Durant. A core of Durant, Trae Young, and Dejounte Murray would be one of the best in the business. Plus, they’d still have Onyeka Ogkongwu (who the Nets might ask for) and Bogdan Bogdanovic to round out the starting lineup.

Sure, the Hawks would have to find creative ways to add depth, but if they had a chance to land Durant, they would do it, and everything else could be sorted out at a later date.

On the other hand, the Nets would be getting a pretty solid haul for Durant. They’d only be getting two actual first-rounders, but they would also get two swaps, and the players they’d get are solid.

Atlanta is likely going to move Collins this offseason, so they would have no problem giving him up. He would have a chance to reset his career and be the face of the franchise (along with Hunter and Ben Simmons) in Brooklyn.

Hunter is the other intriguing player in this deal. He showed some real promise during this past postseason, and if given the right chances, he could emerge as a star.

Lastly, Capela would simply be a salary-matcher in this trade, but he’d help the Nets stay competitive. And since they don’t own any of their firsts, they should still be trying to win.
