The New York Knicks are not living up to expectations this season. After being the fourth seed in the East last year, they look like they could struggle to make the playoffs at all this year.
Thief offseason acquisitions haven’t panned out as well as they might have hoped, but that’s far from the only issue with the team. One of the biggest ones is the play of their star player – Julius Randle.
After an All-NBA Second Team season last year, Randle has come tumbling back down to earth this season. His shooting splits are down, his scoring is down, and he’s made his fair share of bonehead plays.
With the Knicks continuing to struggle, at what point do they consider trading Julius Randle? Well, here are three NBA trades the Knicks could pull off that would send Randle elsewhere.
NBA Trades: 3 Julius Randle trades to help the Knicks – Atlanta Hawks
Hawks receive: Julius Randle, Nerlens Noel
Knicks receive: John Collins, Jalen Johnson, 2024 Second-Round Pick, 2026 Second-Round Pick
These two teams have already made a trade this season, so why not another one? Since John Collins is apparently unhappy with the Atlanta Hawks, trading him for Julius Randle could be an option.
The Hawks would get an All-Star-caliber forward to replace their disgruntled one, and the New York Knicks would pair a younger forward with RJ Barrett for the future.
Nerlens Noel would give the Hawks a defensive stalwart as a backup center, and the Knicks could take a chance on rookie Jalen Johnson, who hasn’t played much in Atlanta.
Collins probably has more trade value because of his age and play this year, but if he wants out, Atlanta might be willing to make a move. This trade would be great for New York’s future.

NBA Trades: 3 Julius Randle trades to help the Knicks – Portland Trail Blazers

Trail Blazers receive: Julius Randle, Evan Fournier

Knicks receive: CJ McCollum, Robert Covington, 2023 First-Round Pick (Top-20 Protected)

This trade may seem like a weird one, but it would give both franchises the shake-up that they desperately need. The New York Knicks would get a new go-to scorer, and the Portland Trail Blazers would put a new cast around Damian Lillard.

The Blazers have been even more of a mess than the Knicks this year. This trade would see them put more talent around Lillard and try out a new fit.

Instead of pairing him with an All-Star-caliber guard, they’d pair him with a forward in Julius Randle. Having guys who have different playstyles might help them out.

Plus, they’d get Evan Fournier in this deal, too, to help replace CJ McCollum. He may not be playing up to his contract, but that doesn’t mean he’s been bad this year – just inconsistent.

For the Knicks, they’d get a guy who can be their lead scorer on a night-to-night basis. McCollum has never gotten that chance with Lillardin the mix, but <a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2022/01/25/nba-trades-julius-randle-knicks/"https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/cj-mccollum-stats-without-damian-lillard" target="_blank" rel="noopener">in 41 games without Lillard he’s averaged nearly 27 points.

Plus, they’d Robert Covington to help shore up their forward depth for this season, and clear some cap space in the long-term by ditching Randle and Fournier.

Maybe this is the switch-up both teams need to kick them into high gear. At the very least, it would give each of them a fresh new look after a disappointing year so far.

NBA Trades: 3 Julius Randle trades to help the Knicks – Washington Wizards

Wizards receive: Julius Randle

Knicks receive: Rui Hachimura, Corey Kispert, Davis Bertans, 2022 First-Round Pick, 2024 First-Round Pick

Recent NBA rumors have revealed that Bradley Beal does not plan to sign an extension with the Washington Wizards. Despite this, the Wizards have no plan on trading him.

Maybe, instead of deadline him, they could instead try to put another All-Star-caliber player alongside him. Julius Randle may be struggling, but he was still an All-Star last year.

Randle is being forced to be the main guy in New York, but in Washington, he’d play second-fiddle. Maybe this is the role he needs to play in order to be at his best.

Plus, this trade would show Beal that the Wizards are doing everything possible to compete right now. That could incentivize him to re-sign this offseason.

For the New York Knicks, this would see them build for the future. Instead of focusing on the now, they would pair Rui Hachimura with RJ Barrett for the future.

This would also allow Barrett to become the primary option on the Knicks, thus giving him the keys to the franchise. That would help him unlock his full potential as a player.

Throw in a promising rookie in Corey Kispert and a couple of first-round picks, and this is a solid deal for New York. Think about Barrett’s future instead of trying to put it all together now.
