On Wednesday night, in a game vs. the Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo reminded everyone why he is the best player in the world.

The game of basketball, a team sport, has always had a weird obsession with which participant could lay claim to the title of being the best individual player in the world. During his heyday, nobody questioned whether or not Barry Bonds was the best baseball player on the planet; his seven MVP awards lay proof to the claim.

However, Bonds never won a World Series title. One player can elevate his team in baseball, but he can’t single-handedly take over a game. Basketball is a different story.

This season is not the first time the debate has raged on about the world’s best player. In the ’80s the argument was Magic versus Bird. In the early 2000s, the contenders were Tim Duncan, Shaquille O’Neal, and Jason Kidd, depending on who you asked. (On a side note, there was no argument in the ’90s; one guy was clearly the best).

As we head towards the end of the calendar year of 2021, basketball fans have a slew of players to choose from as to which one is the overall best. Some would argue in favor of Kevin Durant, others prefer Steph Curry.

There’s also a contingent of fans who believe LeBron James will prove to be the best player in the league when he returns from injury. However, this past Wednesday night at Fiserv Forum, Giannis Antetokounmpo reminded fans that he is the best basketball player on the planet.
