The Detroit Pistons had a comparatively quiet offseason, following a tumultuous near-total turnover of their roster last season. There were a few notable additions and subtractions in the trade market, like Sekou Doumbouya heading to the Brooklyn Nets, but it was nothing like the calamitous event we saw last year.

Of course, that just means the inevitable is being delayed. The trade is a tool that general manager Troy Weaver is very comfortable wielding, and we’ll see plenty more activity from the Pistons in the trade market before long.

We’ll take a look at the three leading candidates to find a trade elsewhere before the NBA trade deadline, starting with one of last season’s prized rehabilitation projects.

Pistons trade candidates: 3. Josh Jackson

It’s a bit surprising that Josh Jackson didn’t get traded in the offseason, given the addition of Hamidou Diallo to the roster. This is no slight on Jackson, instead merely a reflection of the positional redundancy that the two of them provide.

Is it bad to have two athletic wings with long wingspans that can’t reliably shoot the ball? Not necessarily, but it’s not something you need to seek out either. Jackson is also in the final year of his two-year deal, and there’s no clear indication that he’s an integral part of the future for the Pistons.

Jackson’s defense is something a contender could desire, so trading him to a premiere destination by the deadline could be a boon for all parties. The Pistons could generate some value while he gets the opportunity to compete at a high level elsewhere.
