The blood, sweat, and tears that each and every player puts forth in the offseason are to win an NBA title. Of course, they have other things on their checklist as well. Becoming an All-Star, winning a league MVP, making a few All-NBA teams, and ultimately becoming a Hall of Famer is very much at the forefront of their minds as they put up thousands of jump shots and work on their overall weaknesses.
In the end, however, every player wants to be a part of the last team standing.
For those who know exactly what that winning feeling is like, most can attest to the excitement they feel when they are being handed their championship rings. It’s the culmination of all their hard work.
Over the years, championship rings have gotten more and more outrageous. With the game continuing to evolve globally and with NBA teams racking up millions upon millions of dollars yearly, don’t expect them to stop anytime soon.
While each player proudly displays their ring or in some cases, rings, which team has done the best job of creating them. With so much jewelry to choose from over the years, we’ve managed to narrow our list down to 30.
Let’s take a look at the best NBA Championship rings in NBA history.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 30. Washington Bullets, 1978

The old NBA championship rings weren’t exactly eye-catching. Nowadays, NBA players who took home the game’s biggest prize are awarded with gargantuan rings, encrusted with a ridiculous amount of diamonds at the start of the following season.

In 1978, then known as the <a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2021/08/15/nba-ranking-the-30-best-nba-championship-rings/"https://hoopshabit.com/eastern-conference/washington-wizards/">Washington Bullets, the franchise had suffered through two previous Finals losses. Luckily for them, the third time was the charm.

Facing a 3-2 deficit after five games, fans of the Bullets were convinced that their team was once again going to let them down. Unwilling to let yet another NBA title slip through their fingers, Elvin Hayes and Wes Unseld took over. Hayes scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed 15 boards to lead them to a Game 6 victory over the Seattle Supersonics, while Unseld led Washington in rebounding in Game 7 to win the only championship in franchise history.

In return for their efforts, Bullets players were given gold rings with a single and rather small diamond in the middle. The sides of the rings were especially cool. On one end, it said the year in which the title was won along with a colorful picture of the NBA logo. On the other, each player’s name was etched into it along with the Bullets logo.

Hayes had a particularly memorable phrase on his ring which read, “The Fat Lady Sings”, paying homage to head coach Dick Motta.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 29. Los Angeles Lakers, 1985

It was a clash of the titans in 1985. Like they’d done on countless occasions, Larry Bird and his Boston Celtics crew, which consisted of Hall of Famers Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, and Dennis Johnson – went toe to toe against the <a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2021/08/15/nba-ranking-the-30-best-nba-championship-rings/"https://hoopshabit.com/western-conference/los-angeles-lakers/">Los Angeles Lakers and the likes of Magic Johnson, James Worthy, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

After losing Game 1 by 34 points, the Lakers would bounce back in Game 2 with a seven-point win. Just as it appeared that the Celtics had the edge after winning Game 4 on the Lakers home court to tie the series at two games apiece, they turned things completely around by winning the next two games by a combined 20 points.

The Lakers were then handed unique championship rings at the beginning of the following season. Their new jewelry was decked out in all gold. On the side was the Laker logo which was colored in purple and just above that was engraved, “purple reign.” On the front was a picture of the Larry O’Brien trophy which was filled with several diamonds as a purple background was framed around it.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 28. Detroit Pistons, 1989

The Detroit Pistons were ecstatic about getting over the championship hump in 1989. Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas had placed all of his doubters to rest as they dominated Magic Johnson and his Los Angeles Lakers. Thomas made sure that his rough and rugged squad won every game of the series as the Lakers were sent packing courtesy of a four-game sweep.

As Thomas and his teammates were celebrating and drowning in champagne in the locker room, their championship rings were being created. And by the time the new season came rolling by, they weren’t disappointed with their new jewelry.

The Pistons logo took up most of their ring’s forward view. In front of it, was the Larry O’Brien trophy, decked out in nine diamonds. In true Pistons fashion, on the side, the words “Bad Boys” were scribbled into it.

The first ring in franchise history was a bit different than most. The actual logo, which served as a de-facto background for the championship trophy in front of it, was a nice touch. Thomas loved his ring so much in fact, that he would win another one the following year.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 27. Detroit Pistons, 1990

The 1990 Detroit Pistons simply don’t get enough credit or love.

It isn’t hyperbole to say that the history of basketball cannot be fully discussed without mentioning them. They were one of the greatest teams of all time and for a two-year span, no one was better.

After taking home the chip in 1989, the Pistons did it again one year later. With Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, and the rest of that hard-nosed club making their mark amongst the Lakers and Bulls, they established themselves as a powerhouse, albeit for a short amount of time.

As the start of the 1991 season kicked off, the Pistons raised banner number two and were grinning from ear to ear when they were presented with another ring. On this year’s version of their jewelry, a huge red ruby was placed as the background piece. In the center, was a fairly large diamond, surrounding that were several smaller diamonds as the year, team name and world champions name circled all around.

Their next ring wouldn’t come for more than a decade but Pistons fans have become accustomed to their ball clubs grinding things out.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 26. Los Angeles Lakers, 2000

Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal finally broke through. After spending the first few seasons of their career falling short of winning it all, they took home their first of many NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Both O’Neal and Bryant are on the shortlist of best big man, little man combo’s to ever do it. With the pair becoming so dominant, a dynasty ensued. But for their first championship ring, they hauled in a beauty.

On the face of the ring in the very front were the words “world” while on the bottom said “champions.” Near the edges of the ring were five diamonds on each side. In the center were tons of diamonds as the words “Lakers” in purple and gold were spewed across the front.

Although the front was impressive, the side of the ring is what we’ll always remember. The Larry O’Brien was carved into the side of the ring and just beneath it was the year in which it was won. The best part, however, was the words “Bling Bling” that were etched into the side of the ring.

It might be viewed as a bit corny now but it was a perfect reference for the year 2000.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 25. Chicago Bulls, 1991

Winning was thought to be virtually impossible for Michael Jordan and his Chicago Bulls. After watching the former North Carolina star dominate from an individual standpoint, the overwhelming thought process was that his style of play simply wasn’t going to get it done.

Those words, however, proved to be untrue as Jordan finally broke through in 1991 against the Los Angeles Lakers. After losing the first game of the series, the Bulls turned things around to win four straight. Although Jordan had led the team in scoring for the first four games, it was Scottie Pippen who showed out as he scored 32 points and hauled in 13 rebounds. Jordan wasn’t too bad himself, scoring 30 points on 52.2% from the field. In return, Jordan and his Bulls squad were given smooth rings at the start of the following season.

Chicago’s first NBA ring looked mean. On the outside, the ring was fully decked out with small diamonds. In the back of the centerpiece was all black while a golden Bull was placed firmly in the middle. It was intimidating, different, and flat-out cool.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 24. Los Angeles Lakers, 2002

The dynasty was in full effect at this point. Shaquille O’Neal was clearly the best player in the world and the second best appeared to be his sidekick, Kobe Bryant. Of course, there was no doubt that Phil Jackson was the puppet master behind it all, pulling the strings and making sure everyone played their role correctly.

In 2002, the Lakers were surrounded by controversy, constant bickering through the media, and more importantly, the San Antonio Spurs who almost knocked them off in seven games during the Western Conference Finals.

The Lakers made it look incredibly easy against the then New Jersey Nets, making their lives miserable for a four-game sweep.

The seemingly good relationship between O’Neal and Bryant was a spurious front as they hated each other <a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2021/08/15/nba-ranking-the-30-best-nba-championship-rings/"https://lakersnation.com/a-complete-timeline-of-the-shaquille-oneal-kobe-bryant-feud/2020/06/10/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">behind the scenes. Still, despite all of the madness, they took home their third straight title and their championship ring was gorgeous.

One singular purple triangular stone stood in the middle of the ring, on its three sides were the words “back back back” which was apropos. Just outside of those words were two triangular diamonds with a third at the bottom. In the background of the entire stone were yellow diamonds.

It was a great work of art. It’s too bad Bryant and O’Neal couldn’t get their act together and rack up more as a team.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 23. Chicago Bulls, 1997

The fifth championship for the Chicago Bulls was all about making a statement. Once again, it didn’t take much for Jordan to become extremely upset with what he felt was a slight from the NBA.

Somehow, someway, Karl Malone was given the MVP nod over Jordan in 1997. It doesn’t make any sense when we take a look at the overall numbers. Malone went on to average 27.4 points, 9.9 rebounds, 4.5 assists and shot 55% from the field. Great numbers without question but Jordan was the far better player that season.

Jordan averaged 29.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists and carried the Bulls to a 69 win season, five games better than the Jazz. While Malone may have enjoyed his MVP award, Jordan was too busy gazing at his newly won NBA ring. And by all accounts, it was a beauty.

The 1997 NBA Championship ring was somewhat simplistic but was virtually perfect. In the center of their golden ring was a Bull which was completed covered in diamonds. Not all rings need to be extravagant. This one was the perfect illustration of that.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 22. Miami Heat, 2012

For as much hype and attention that the Miami Heat received during the LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh era, their 2012 NBA Championship rings were somewhat underwhelming. That’s not to say that it wasn’t an impressive ring but in our estimation, we were expecting a bit more.

The Larry O’Brien trophy sat in the center of their rings as the Miami Heat logo stood splattered across it. The trophy was gold and the logo was covered in diamonds. There was a simplistic black background and around the inner and outer edges were diamonds. On the side of their rings were the jersey numbers of each player from that season, along with the message “All In” written inside the Larry O’Brien trophy.

In total, the Miami Heat were given fantastic rings, and considering that there were 217 diamonds used in total only backs that claim but again, for our taste, we were expecting more. When the Big 3 first arrived on the scene, it appeared as though the road to a championship would always go through Miami. While it ultimately did for four years, the Heat only have two rings to show for it.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 21. Los Angeles Lakers, 2001

A historic playoff run needed an equally historic ring.

The Los Angeles Lakers were a really terrific team during the 2001 NBA season. They finished their regular season with the second-best record in the Western Conference at 56-26 but once the postseason came rolling by, they turned into a completely different animal.

They ran through Scottie Pippen, Rasheed Wallace, and the Portland Trailblazers without losing a game. The Lakers then made quick work of the Sacramento Kings, taking them out in four games. Not even Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs were any match for them as they were also swept from the playoffs in the following round.

The Lakers would only lose one game during that postseason run, the first game of the NBA Finals to the Philadelphia 76ers, before winning the next four straight. Currently, their win percentage stands at .93.8, the second-highest in NBA postseason history.

With back-to-back titles in their possession, the Lakers made sure that everyone knew what they had just done with their championship rings. On the front were matching Larry O’Brien trophies that were covered in diamonds. Their background setting was also covered in diamonds as well. On the side was the Lakers regular-season record and their playoff record which stood at 15-1.

Last and certainly not least, on the other side was the Lakers logo and “back 2 back” etched into the ring. It was a historic run and because of that, each Laker member has a reminder of what they did once they take a look at their hardware.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 20. San Antonio Spurs, 2005

The San Antonio Spurs and the Detroit Pistons played in one of the most underrated Finals series of all time in 2005.

The best way to sum up that series is defense, defense, defense, and more defense. Only once did either team score over 100 points. It was a knockdown, drag-out matchup that ultimately went in the Spurs direction. With their second title in three years and third overall during Tim Duncan’s tenure, the Spurs made sure to hand out the sort of rings that would keep their balk club motivated.

Spurs players were ecstatic with the size of their rings and the countless diamonds that accompanied them. The rings were dipped in 14k white gold and had roughly 1.25 carats etched into the face. Also, smack dab in the middle, was a golden Larry O’Brien trophy, along with “Spurs” placed on the front, also covered in diamonds.

The sides of the ring were kept fairly simple, displaying the year in which the title was won, the word “NBA Champions” and said player’s name. Lastly, their regular season record of 59-13 was also on display as well as the series score, 4-3, against the Pistons.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 19. Los Angeles Lakers, 2010

For the most part, once an NBA team wins back-to-back titles, their subsequent rings reflect that. With the Los Angeles Lakers exercising a few demons in their trip to the Finals in 2010, coming back from a 3-2 deficit against the Boston Celtics to win championship number 16, the franchise went all out on their rings.

On the face of the ring is a diamond-encrusted basketball, in fact, a piece of the actual game ball was used to make each ring. Two Larry O’Brien tropics are sitting on the edge of the rings to symbolize winning back-to-back titles. Eight diamonds were placed on the bottom half of the ring with an additional eight diamonds on the top half to symbolize their sixteen NBA titles.

On one side of the ring, the series outcome of every playoff round is depicted. Also, the actual scoreboard of their Game 7 win over the Celtics, which was 83-79, is also etched into the ring. The coolest part of this particular design comes on the other side. Each player has their respective face sculpted into the ring.

This ring was unique in every sense of the word and it certainly deserves a high ranking on our list.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 18. Chicago Bulls, 1993

Championship number three for Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls was a special one.

Like always, Jordan was left speechless when the 1993 NBA MVP award was given to someone other than himself. So when arguably the best player in league history was forced to watch Charles Barkley snag the MVP award, Jordan made sure he remembered it.

The Bulls took care of business in the first two games before losing the third. They would eventually finish off the Phoenix Suns in six games. In the process, Jordan dominated, he averaged 41 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 6.3 assists.

Now, with their third straight NBA title, the Bulls essentially ushered in the first championship ring that was encrusted with diamonds. The background piece of their championship ring was fully decorated with diamonds. In the center, was a red ruby carved in the shape of a Bull. The sides weren’t too spectacular but they did add a very cool touch as the player’s name, jersey number and a picture of the Larry O’Brien Trophy followed by their playoff record was just beneath it.

With the Bulls showing that more than just a few diamonds belonged in an NBA Championship ring, they certainly deserve a lofty spot on our list.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 17. Boston Celtics, 2008

The era of the big 3 was officially introduced during the 2007-08 season. Just before the year kicked off, Danny Ainge had grown sick and tired of watching his Boston Celtics flounder in mediocrity. So instead, the former GM began swinging for the fences.

The Celtics first brought in Ray Allen, an eventual Hall of Famer with a smooth jay. He then followed that up with former MVP and also an eventual Hall of Famer in Kevin Garnett. Ainge then filled in the pieces to surround his two new stars and with Paul Pierce already in the mix, the Celtics ran through most of the league and took care of business against the Los Angeles Lakers, destroying them in six games.

With the 17th banner officially hanging from the rafters, Ainge handed his championship squad some memorable rings. The front was fully covered in diamonds. There was also a lucky clover placed right in the middle which was made from green emerald.

All season long, head coach Doc Rivers would motivate his ball club by saying “Ubuntu” which means the success of each person depends on the person next to them. It was a family atmosphere and Rivers’ motivational tactics worked. It was such a memorable phrase in fact, that Ainge had it carved into the side of their rings.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 16. Miami Heat, 2013

While we were somewhat underwhelmed with the Miami Heat franchise for their taste in rings for the 2012 season, they took things up a notch in 2013.

After denying Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and the Spurs franchise a championship ring during the 2013 NBA Finals, LeBron James and Dwayne successfully carried the Heat to their second straight title.

For their efforts, each Heat player was given a championship ring that was flooded with 242 diamonds. Like always, their championship ring paid clear homage to winning back to back.

On the front of each ring were two large Larry O’Brien trophy trophies with the word “Heat” emblazoned across the front in diamonds. All around those rings were countless more diamonds with a nicely placed black background.

On one side of their rings, it illustrated three total Championship trophies which symbolized how many times the franchise won it all. It wasn’t one of the most eye-catching rings but it was certainly a step up from what we’ve seen them dish out in years past.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 15. San Antonio Spurs, 2007

It was a beautifully large ring that the San Antonio Spurs were presented with after taking home the NBA title in the 2006-07 season.

Standing on the other side of the court and determined to stop them from winning it all, was a 22-year-old LeBron James. At the time, the NBA world appeared to be his for the taking. But just when the horns began blaring as they declared his coronation, good ole reliable San Antonio would hear none of it.

On the back of the speedy Tony Parker, the Spurs ran circles around the Cavaliers and subsequently placed the clamps on James in the process. As the chapter turned on the season, the Spurs were handed the championship rings they worked so hard for. It wasn’t completely decked out in diamonds but there was enough to make their point.

A total of 34 diamonds were on the edges, 17 on each side, were placed around the ring. The Spurs logo was covered in diamonds as well.

It may have been their fourth ring in nine seasons but the Spurs weren’t quite done with winning more titles.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 14. Los Angeles Lakers, 2009

The Los Angeles Lakers, and Kobe Bryant more especially, were left devastated with what took place the year prior. The Boston Celtics handed them a beating in the Finals, including a 39 point Game 6 annihilation. To make up for it, the Lakers tore through the league during the 2008-09 season and made it look easy against the Orlando Magic.

Bryant went on to win MVP of the series and more importantly, he proved that he could, in fact, lead a ball club to the ultimate prize as the lead dog in charge. With his fourth title in his possession and the first without Shaquille O’Neal, Bryant and his teammates received gargantuan rings.

The customary “World Champions” tag was printed on the front of the ring. Also, like always, diamonds flooded the front of said ring. Placed right in front of the ring was the Larry O’Brien trophy with the Lakers logo draped across the front. There was also some cool very ingenious things about this ring.

For starters, on the side of the ring, was the player’s last name, regular-season record, and a picture of downtown Los Angeles. The other side was the series outcome of every playoff round.

It was an enormous ring with plenty of hidden meaning all around.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 13. San Antonio Spurs, 2003

The San Antonio Spurs were always viewed as a bit mundane. The team’s first NBA title, which came in 1999, was decent but more so on the plain side. There was nothing extravagant or outlandish about it whatsoever. But once they pocketed their second title in 2003, they took things up a notch.

While most believed that the Los Angeles Lakers would win the next 10 NBA titles, the Spurs found a way to hold them to just three in a row. Once the Lakers were out of the picture, falling to the Spurs in six games in the second round of the playoffs, they had a clear lane to an NBA title.

The Spurs would eventually knockoff the Dallas Mavericks in six games in the Western Conference Finals before doing the same against the New Jersey Nets in the Finals.

With another title in their possession, the Spurs shied away from the sort of low-key ring design that their first championship was derived from. There were seven stones laced across the edges of the ring on both sides. On the top and bottom, the words “world champions” were in big letters. Across the face of the ring were several diamonds in the background while the Spurs logo was draped across the front. That too, was covered in diamonds as well.

It was a huge step up from their first championship ring and the franchise made sure it wasn’t there last.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 12. Dallas Mavericks, 2011

Many believed it simply wasn’t meant to be. The Dallas Mavericks had spent so many years as championship contenders but time and time again, they came up small when the lights were at their absolute brightest.

On three separate occasions, the Mavericks advanced to the Western Conference Finals during Dirk Nowitzki’s tenure, they were also bounced from the first round when they simply weren’t supposed to. In 2007, after Nowitzki captured league MVP honors and the Mavericks held the league’s best record, Dallas melted under the pressure and lost in the opening round to the Golden State Warriors. The Mavericks would make a Finals appearance in 2006 and appeared to be on their way to winning it all after grabbing the first two games against the Miami Heat. They would ultimately lose the next four.

In 2011, ironically enough as a huge underdog, the Mavericks would take care of business and win the first title in franchise history against the Miami Heat. It’s well chronicled how wealthy owner Mark Cuban is and it came as no surprise to hear that he went all out.

The Mavericks were given ridiculously huge-sized rings. In total, 257 diamonds were laced all around. Interestingly enough, on the side of their rings read the quote “The Time Is Now.” Considering that it’s been well over a decade since the Mavericks have made another Finals appearance, their “time” sure was a short one.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 11. Detroit Pistons, 2004

It was never supposed to happen in the first place. The 2004 Detroit Pistons were a good team on paper. Even on the court actually, they were terrific. During the 2003-04 season, the Pistons ranked second in the league in defensive rating.

They may have sported four All-Stars in Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Ben Wallace, and Rasheed Wallace but they were big-time underdogs against the Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals. With their highest point per game scorer checking in at 17.6 points per game, the Lakers were mostly expected to wipe the floor with the Pistons. With that said, Detroit would ultimately go on to gentlemen sweep a stacked Lakers squad which featured Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Gary Payton and Karl Malone.

The Pistons made sure their championship rings were memorable. The front of their new jewelry was completely covered in diamonds but right in the middle was the team’s name with a golden Larry O’Brien trophy sitting right in the middle. While their rings may not seem all that special, wait until we get to the cool part. On one side of their rings the words “The Right Way” were etched into it with three NBA Championships, which illustrated how many titles the franchise had won. On the other side, it perfectly described the sort of team the Pistons were.

For much of the early 2000s, the Pistons prided themselves on hard work as they were largely considered a blue-collar city. So, to recognize their never say die attitude, the Pistons had “Going To Work” carved into the ring, along with the series score of the NBA Finals. Unfortunately for the franchise, they haven’t come close to bringing home another title.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 10. San Antonio Spurs, 2014

Remember how we used to criticize the San Antonio Spurs for having a very mundane approach to championship rings? Well, over the years, they continued to get better and better in that regard, and in 2014, they produced their best one yet.

Whether you want to say the Spurs were acrimonious, Apoplectic, dejected, or flat-out disgusted with the way things shaped out last season, the bottom line is, it wasn’t supposed to happen the way it did.

At the end of the 2013 NBA season, the Spurs watched from their locker rooms as the Miami Heat came back from a 3-2 deficit to claim back-to-back titles. <a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2021/08/15/nba-ranking-the-30-best-nba-championship-rings/"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tr6XsZVb-ZE%22 target="_blank" rel="noopener">Game 6 in particular, was a heartbreaker. Seemingly fueled by their shortcomings all season long, the Spurs ran through the league the following season before ultimately destroying the Heat in a rematch by a record margin.

With their playoff demons officially behind them, the Spurs took home their fifth and so far, latest championship. Although on several occasions, the details of a championship ring lie within the sides of the actual jewelry, this time around, it was fairly plain. Said player’s name, jersey number, the year in which the title was won, and the number of titles the franchise won as a whole were all plastered on the sides of the ring.

Most of the beauty of this championship came right in front. The ring was almost blinding with the number of diamonds that were spread across the front and edges. In addition to the countless diamonds, the Spurs logo as well as a golden Larry O’Brien trophy stood firmly in the middle.

Fans of the Spurs should cherish this title because considering the sort of teams they’ve been able to put out there on the hardwood lately, they won’t be winning anything anytime soon.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 9. Syracuse Nationals, 1955

For the vast majority of NBA rings, they’ve mostly come made out of gold. We aren’t entirely sure why that’s the case but they simply are. This is especially true in the early years of the NBA. Yet, when it comes to the 1955 Syracuse Nationals they changed things up completely when they took home the crown.

Traditionally, NBA Champions were given a golden ring with one singular small diamond in the middle. In the case of the 1947 Philadelphia Warriors, it looked as though someone actually wrote “champions” on their rings in pencil.

No longer interested in the dull usual design of NBA rings in the past, the Nationals created a ring that deserves a spot amongst the best ever made.

In the center, just below the word “world” and above the word “champions”, the Nationals had most of the center of their ring covered in diamonds. From there, a small carving of the United States of America was placed in the middle with the year in which the ring was won.

Considering that the Nationals logo was a shape of America, it was perfect. To make things even better, on the outside edges of the ring, we’re five stones on each side. Those stones were in the color of the American flag, red, white, and blue.

It was as though the Nationals took a peek into the future before coming out with those rings. And even though it’s been well over five decades since being released, these rings can still match up with the best of them.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 8. Chicago Bulls, 1998

While the 1998 Chicago Bulls are mostly lauded throughout NBA history, for fans of the Windy City franchise, bringing up these memories is painful.

Just when the NBA world appeared to be there for the taking, Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls were set to take everything down and start from scratch. It wasn’t that they weren’t dominant or good anymore, but for whatever reason, front office personnel along with then head coach Phil Jackson and Jordan clashed nonstop.

Before they all went their separate ways, the Bulls went on to win their sixth and final title. Jordan’s final ring was gorgeous. Normally, a gigantic Bull was placed on the front of the ring, this time, it was a picture of a giant Larry O’Brien trophy. The coolest part of this ring was the symbolism. Inside the O’Brien trophy, we’re five other O’Brien trophies that were shaped like diamonds. They would all form one humongous one. Meaning, six altogether.

Things were never supposed to end the way they did. Jordan still had plenty left in the tank and so did his teammates. We’ll never know how many titles in a row the Bulls could’ve won but for now, fans of the franchise are grateful for the historic run.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 7. Chicago Bulls, 1996

There was absolutely no way we could make a list of the best NBA rings in history and not have the 1996 Chicago Bulls placed highly on our list.

You remember them, don’t you?

At the time, the Bulls set an NBA record for wins in a regular season with 72. They then bulldozed their way through the postseason to capture the fourth title in franchise history.

The Bulls truly went all out with their latest championship ring. On the front were four golden Larry O’Brien trophies with each having a diamond-encrusted ball across an all-black background. On the outer edges were two rows of diamonds.

On the sides of those rings were said player’s last name and the year in which the ring was won along with the Bulls logo. What truly made this ring special was the other side. For countless years now, the 1996 Bulls have been considered the greatest team of all time. To further that sentiment, the words “Greatest Team Ever” are carved into the ring, along with their 72 total wins.

It’s hard to argue with that statement.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 6. Golden State Warriors, 2017

Say what you want about the Golden State Warriors but the franchise sure knows how to make an impression with an NBA Championship ring.

Once Kevin Durant packed his bags and left the Oklahoma City Thunder in favor of the Warriors in 2017, winning a title with the franchise was a forgone conclusion. Just as everyone expected, the Warriors ran through the league and made quick work of LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers. Now, with the fifth title in franchise history and the second in three years, Joseph S. Lacob, owner of the squad made sure that they picked up a memorable ring.

The Bay Bridge in San Francisco took its place in the center of the ring with the Larry O’Brien trophy placed just over it, both were solid gold. The background was filled with yellow diamonds and across the edges were crystals, even further out, just before the sides of the rings were blue sapphire crystals.

Not only were there diamonds everywhere but their rings were humongous.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 5. Los Angeles Lakers, 2020

2020 was an extremely weird year.

A worldwide pandemic forced the NBA to take a hiatus and many believed that the season would be completely lost. Thankfully for everyone involved, they kicked things back off approximately three months later.

With no fans sitting in attendance and with plenty of social distancing, the NBA Playoffs successfully took place. LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and the rest of their Los Angeles Laker teammates took care of business in the playoff “bubble” and ultimately cruised to an NBA title.

In return, each player received one of the most decked-out rings in history.

On the front of each ring was the Laker logo which was appropriately covered in gold, yellow and white diamonds. The words “World Champions” were also littered in diamonds as well. Surrounding the outer edges of the ring are 17 trophies which made reference to the number of titles they’ve won as a franchise.

In addition to their team’s regular season record, as well as their record in the playoffs being plastered on the side of the ring, the Lakers added a cool extra feature. In honor of the unfortunate passing of Kobe Bryant, one of the greatest players in NBA history and arguably the greatest Laker ever, his signature Mamba snake is wrapped around every player’s jersey number.

This ring is as good as it gets.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 4. Golden State Warriors, 2015

It wasn’t the most diamonds in a championship ring but the 2015 Golden State Warriors had by far one of the most gorgeous rings in NBA history.

The details surrounding this specific jewelry were incredible.

On the front, every piece of their ring was littered with diamonds and gold. The team’s Bay Bridge in San Francisco was placed dead center. Just above the bridge was the number of the player who received the ring.

Whenever a player would take off their ring and look on the inside, the top of the Oracle Arena, the Warriors’ former home building, was carved into it with a single blue sapphire. On one side of the rings, the word “World Champions” was etched into it, and just beneath that, was a picture of a golden Larry O’Brien trophy with several members of the Golden State Warriors team placing their hand on it.

The year in which the title was won is engraved into the other side of the ring followed by the player’s last name. Lastly, blue sapphires were emblazoned all across the top edges of the ring.

Simply put, this ring was nearly flawless.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 3. Cleveland Cavaliers, 2016

There has been plenty of instances in which Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert was castigated constantly. For the most part, it was for good reason. Under his leadership, the Cavaliers suffered miserable season after miserable season. That, coupled with <a href=https://hoopshabit.com/2021/08/15/nba-ranking-the-30-best-nba-championship-rings/"https://thespun.com/news/dan-gilbert-lebron-james-letter-comic-sans-2010" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gilbert’s response to LeBron James leaving the franchise in 2010 made him unquestionably one of the worst owners in the entire NBA.

With that said, he should be given a ton of credit for the championship rings that he helped create back in 2016.

The Cavaliers truly had to dig deep during the 2016 NBA Finals. Facing a 3-1 deficit and the undeniable fact that no team had ever come back from that sort of hole in NBA Finals history, the Cavaliers went on to win the next three straight games to claim the first title in franchise history.

With a historic comeback came a historic ring. Let’s start with the bottom band of the ring. There are a total of seven gems, three of which were clear which represented the three wins of the Warriors and the following were wine colored which were a euphemism for the four games the Cavaliers won.

Each player’s last name was depicted on the side of the rings in yellow gold with the year in which the title was won which was covered diamonds. The 0 in 2016, was replaced with the NBA logo. On the other side of the ring was a view of the Cleveland skyline which included the Stokes Federal Courthouse, Quicken Loans Arena, 200 Public Square Terminal Tower, and Key Tower. The player’s number was also present and covered in yellow gold and diamonds as well.

The centerpiece of the rings truly stuck out. The Cleveland C is wrapped around the Larry O’Brien trophy while the background is covered in gold as the words “World Champions” are displayed on the top and bottom half of the ring.

Dan Gilbert truly did an incredible job with this one.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 2. Golden State Warriors, 2018

The 2018 Golden State Warriors truly outdid themselves with their championship rings in 2018. Having won a second straight title against LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers, the Warriors were presumably in the middle of a dynastic type run.

By all accounts, the Warriors know how to make an impression with a championship ring. But this time around, they took things to another level.

Since the Warriors successfully swept their Cavaliers, a bristle-like texture is featured on each side of the ring which symbolizes their sweep. Each player’s last name, jersey number, Bay Bridge, and the phrase “Just Us” along with the NBA logo is carved into one side of the ring.

The front of the ring is where things truly get interesting. The Bay bridge is pictured on the front and is fully covered in diamonds but the top can be twisted off. On one side of that twistable, the Bay bridge is covered with blue diamonds, on the other, the diamonds are clear. Plastered underneath those screwable tops is the phrase, Strength in Numbers.

We have no choice but to tip our cap to the Warriors franchise for this one.

Ranking the best championship rings in NBA history: 1. Toronto Raptors, 2019

It didn’t seem to be conjecture that the Toronto Raptors would never win an NBA title, it appeared to be a thousand percent true. The franchise never made an appearance in the Finals, let alone win the whole thing. Even as the Raptors made the blockbuster move by trading for Kawhi Leonard before the start of the 2019 season, no one took their championship aspirations seriously.

Everyone, of course, we’re proven wrong as Leonard led them to their first NBA title. With the entire country of Toronto on fire due to their unlikely win, it came as no shock that they received the most outrageous and detailed orientated ring ever.

The 650 diamonds that are currently in these championship rings were once a record. But we expect the number of diamonds that are associated with championship rings to continue to grow.

On its face, there are 74 diamonds, which was the total of regular season and playoff wins the Raptors won that year. It was also a suggestion made by point guard Kyle Lowry. The Raptors slogan “North” was placed on the front of the ring and in the background was the Larry O’Brien trophy along with the Toronto Skyline. On the edges of the ring is each player’s jersey number which is separated by a red ruby. Whoever received their ring also has their last name carved into the side in gold along with their jersey number surrounded by diamonds and gold beneath it.

Although Leonard ultimately packed his bags and headed out the door the following season, he’ll forever be a part of what we feel is the greatest NBA Championship ring in history.
