Now is the time for the Miami Heat to trade Tyler Herro

The Miami Heat just wrapped up a fairly successful season. Although, if you ask anybody on the roster, it wasn’t a great season, as they did not reach their goal of winning a championship.

This offseason, they will face some important decisions, as their books aren’t looking too hot at the moment. Between the contracts of Jimmy Butler, Kyle Lowry, and Duncan Robinson, they don’t have much room to work with.

That’s why Tyler Herro’s upcoming contract extension is all the more terrifying. If he wants a max deal, which he’ll likely ask for, the Heat could be in a bit of a pickle.

Now is the time for the Miami Heat to trade Tyler Herro

In turn, they should look to explore potential trade opportunities this summer. This isn’t because Herro isn’t a talented player, he is. But instead, it’s because he may not be worth a max contract.

Pat Riley will manage to get them out of the financially sticky situation they’ve found themselves in. He just will. However, that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t still look to trade Herro.

The Sixth Man of the Year winner is a great young talent, and he has very clear All-Star potential. However, with the recent back-and-forth of him wanting to start and Riley telling him to earn it, the early formations of a rift could be happening before our very eyes.

Plus, if there were ever a time to trade Herro, it would be now. He’s coming off an award-winning season and is still just 22 years old. Plus, there should be plenty of available firepower to target in the trade market.

Miami could speak to the Utah Jazz about a potential Donovan Mitchell trade. They could look North and engage the Toronto Raptors in talks surrounding OG Anunoby (though, he’s not a star just yet). They could visit the nation’s capital and try to deal for Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards. There will be plenty of options.

Combine Herros’ upcoming contract extension, the wide variety of available options this summer, and Miami’s evident need to add a second star alongside Butler, and now is the time to consider trading the young star.
