The NBA world was just shaken to its core. It was reported by multiple sources that Kevin Durant has requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets and will be moved this offseason.
After the initial reports that Durant was pondering his future in Brooklyn a couple of weeks ago, it was finally made official today that he wants a trade away from the Nets.
Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports listed the Phoenix Suns as one of Durant’s preferred destinations, and Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report added the Miami Heat to that list as well.
Both of those teams will have great packages to offer for Durant, as will other teams around the league. Here are four trade packages the Nets should consider for Durant.
NBA Trades: 4 Kevin Durant trades for the Brooklyn Nets to consider: Miami Heat
Heat receive: Kevin Durant
Nets receive: Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, 2023 1st-Round Pick
Since the Heat were listed as one of Durant’s preferred destinations, they need to be included on this list. However, financially speaking, this is really the only trade they can do.
Technically, they could offer a package of Herro, Lowry, and other pieces, but that’s just not good enough for Durant. If they want to outbid other teams, they would probably have to part ways with Adebayo.
Whether or not they would be willing to do that is unknown, but it would certainly be the most enticing package on the market. Brooklyn would be getting an All-Star and a potential future All-Star for Durant.
Again, though, the real question in this scenario is whether or not the Heat would willingly give up their future for Durant. If they decide to, then this would probably be the best trade package the Nets would receive.
***The other note here is that the Nets would have to first trade Ben Simmons because they can’t have two players on rookie-scale max extensions on the same team.

NBA Trades: 4 Kevin Durant trades for the Brooklyn Nets to consider: Phoenix Suns

Suns receive: Kevin Durant

Nets receive: Deandre Ayton, Cameron Johnson, 2023 1st-Round Pick, 2025 1st-Round Pick, 2027 1st-Round Pick, 2024 1st-Round Pick (Swap), 2026 1st-Round Pick (swap)

The Suns were also named as one of Durant’s preferred destinations, and based on their current arsenal of assets, this is what their trade package could look like.

There’s a chance that the Nets demand Mikal Bridges in the deal instead of Johnson, but that’s where the bidding war comes in. Phoenix would probably open with this deal and hope it works out.

Having Ayton as a building block would be a great place to start for the Nets. He most certainly has All-Star potential, and with his own team, there’s always a chance he blossoms even more.

And while Johnson has been the perfect role player throughout his time with the Suns, there’s always a chance that he blossoms into something more with the extra freedom he’d have in Brooklyn. He’s still only 26 years old.

Meanwhile, this trade would solidify the Suns as the favorites to win it all next year. With Devin Booker, Chris Paul, and Durant, they would have the best Big 3 in the NBA.

Obviously, they would need to find a new starting center, but if they have the chance to make a trade for Durant, they need to take it. He’d almost certainly help them get over the hump.

NBA Trades: 4 Kevin Durant trades for the Brooklyn Nets to consider: Boston Celtics

Celtics receive: Kevin Durant

Nets receive: Jaylen Brown, Grant Williams, Payton Pritchard, 2023 1st-Round Pick, 2025 1st-Round Pick, 2024 1st-Round Pick (Swap)

Outside of Bam Adebayo being included in a Heat deal, Brown might be the best player Brooklyn would potentially receive in any Durant deal around the league.

But similar to Adebayo, it would be a question of whether or not the Celtics are willing to give him up. He’s only 25 years old and they are coming off of a successful Finals run (where they swept Durant in the first round).

And just like the Suns deal, there’s a chance that the Nets ask for Robert Williams in this trade. But again, it would be a matter of a bidding war, and whichever team bit first and threw in extra assets would likely win.

In this trade, the Nets would be getting their new face of the franchise in Brown, as well as two young pieces in Williams and Pritchard, who could potentially grow into something more. They’d also get some first, obviously.

For the Celtics, this would be their chance to put another true superstar next to Jayson Tatum in hopes of winning a title next year (or in the following years of Durant’s contract).

Again, this trade is just like the Miami one. It would be the Celtics giving up their future (outside of Tatum) in an attempt to swing for the fences.

NBA Trades: 4 Kevin Durant trades for the Brooklyn Nets to consider: Golden State Warriors

Warriors receive: Kevin Durant

Nets receive: Andrew Wiggins, James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, 2026 1st-Round Pick, 2028 1st-Round Pick

How crazy would this deal be? Sure, Durant would never hear the end of it on Twitter, but this might be the funniest trade to ever happen in the history of the NBA. And the craziest part is, this is actually a solid trade package.

This deal would see the Nets land Wiggins, who is coming off of the best run of his career. Maybe there’s more left in the tank for him to be one of the faces of their franchise.

In addition, they would be receiving multiple former lottery picks, all of whom haven’t had their full chance to grow yet due to injuries or other rotational decisions.

Wiseman could still have something there, as he’s been hurt for his entire career. Meanwhile, both Kuminga and Moody showed flashes of elite potential in Golden State.

For the Warriors, this would be an insane story. They would be getting the band back together in hopes of winning even more titles at the backend of Stephen Curry’s career.

And the best part about it is, they would retain Jordan Poole in this deal. Just like Robert Williams and Mikal Bridges, he could end up being the sticking point for the Nets, though.
