Most NBA teams have that one part of the season where they slip down the standings a bit, and it’s usually because one of their players is injured. A ton of teams this season have had players out due to injury.
The Brooklyn Nets have Ben Simmons and Joe Harris out, the Dallas Mavericks have Tim Hardaway Jr. out due to a foot injury, the Charlotte Hornets have Gordon Hayward out with an ankle injury, and there are countless other examples, too. However, for some teams, it’s worse than others, and Cleveland Cavaliers have it bad right now.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are the unluckiest team in the NBA
Recently, Clevland has tumbled down the standings and is having trouble staying afloat. Back in February, the Cavs were a solid team, standing at number three… and then they dropped to number five in just four days. They were then number six in the East for 23 days and just recently dropped to number seven.
What did Cleveland have earlier in the season that they don’t have now? The answer to that is extremely simple – players. They had players.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have struggled with players being out due to injuries for the entire season. Collin Sexton, who was Cleveland’s best guard last year, was out early in the season due to a knee injury. Other players like Ricky Rubio, Darius Garland, Lauri Markkanen, Caris LeVert, and Rajon Rondo have all been out this season as well due to injury.
The worst news of all, however, can not long ago when it was announced that one of Cleveland’s All-Stars, Jarrett Allen, will most likely be out for the rest of the season due to a back injury. And to make matters worse, star rookie Evan Mobley is feared to have suffered a sprained ankle.
The big question is, will Cleveland make it to the playoffs? According to Garland himself, they’re still confident in themselves.
“We’re going to keep getting better. We’re going to play like we’re in the top 6 seed and we’re going to do what we do. We still have a lot of games left and we’re going to get there.”
Cleveland will undoubtedly make the playoffs, currently sitting at seventh in the East. They are still treading water and winning games, and they should be able to power through. But injuries have really put a damper on an otherwise amazing season.
